Ayer Mayo 20, 2017 acabo de terminar de leer mi primer libro de Isabel Allende "Mi Inventado País"Siendo solamente dos años menor que Isabel, no puedo comprender mi reticencia a leer libros de de una autora compatriota, quizás sea por la arraigada creencia de que nadie es profeta en su propia tierra.Solamente me decidí a leer este primer libro, porque fue mencionado por mi preferido autor Christopher Hitchens, autor del popular libro, "Dios No Es Grandioso: Como La Religión Envenena Todo" que llegó a ser de acuerdo a New York Times su libro mejor vendido.Ahora indudablemente creo que he quedado adicto a los libros de Isabel Allende.Quién sabe si quizás alguna ves en mi vida mientras vivía en Chile mis pasos y los de Isabel se cruzaron, esto solamente sería si ella en los años setentas visitaba la modesta casa que el señor Presidente Allende tenía en Algarrobo Chile.En aquellos años yo era policía uniformado (Carabineros de Chile) de la Décima Comisaría de Carabineros de Algarrobo y estuve de servicio todos los días por tres años de guardia en la casa del querido y respetado "para mí" Sr. Salvador Allende Gossens.En 1971, cuando Fidel Castro visitó Chile, el Sr. Allende viajó a Algarrobo en compañía de Fidel, y Carabineros habiendo sido informado con anticipación de su visita se encontraba preparado para darle la seguridad que a un presidente en cualquier nación le es dada.Apenas el Sr. Allende bajó de su automóvil, lo primero que hizo, fue dirigirse él y su esposa a nosotros los carabineros y con su bondad y carisma que lo hacía tan especial, nos dio las gracias por el sacrificio que significaba el cuidar permanentemente su humilde residencia de veraneo.Jamás me olvidaré de este hombre que dio su vida para dejar una declaración póstuma de lo que significa la lealtad a su patria.Hoy solamente un día después de haber terminado de leer mi primer libro de Isabel, " Mi Inventado País" me encuentro leyendo "La Suma De Los Días" "Biografía" y ni siquiera he terminado el primer capítulo y ya lo estoy disfrutando tanto como un cerdo disfruta dándose un baño en el barro como acostumbramos a decir los chilenos.Una pequeña anécdota a la cual yo llamo.. "Un Sandwich y Una Taza de Café"Hay algo que jamás borraré de mi mente es la siguiente anécdota.En una de sus visitas a su casa de Algarrobo del presidente Allende con su esposa Hortensia Bussi.Durante la trayectoria del día, la señora Hortensia salió de su casa y se dirigió a nosotros los Carabineros de guardia y nos invitó a entrar a su casa a tomar una taza de café y un Sandwich, a lo cual nosotros respondimos que no nos estaba permitido abandonar nuestra guardia. Entonces ella nos ofreció traernos el café y el Sandwich afuera para que de esa forma no abandonáramos la guardia, a lo cual inmediatamente le informamos que tampoco estaba permitido a Carabineros el comer en la vía pública mientras estábamos uniformados y de guardia. Después de darle las gracias por su generosidad ella pensativamente dio la media vuelta y se metió a su casa.Aproximadamente dos minutos después apareció ante nosotros el Sr. Allende y nos informó que Él había llamado a nuestro comisario y que lo había convencido que hiciera una excepción y que nos dejara aceptar su ofrecimiento, a lo cual el comisario accedió siempre y cuando pasásemos de uno en uno, para que de esa forma no quedará la residencia desprotegida, lo cual tenía mucho sentido.He contado esta pequeña anécdota con el único propósito de dar a saber a todos aquellos que la lean, la infinita generosidad, bondad y leal actitud de este gran hombre que no le importaba el nivel social o económico de cualquier persona.PD. Desde Enero 1974 asta el presente vivo en Estados Unidos. Un país que a pesar de todas sus controversias, ya sean justas o injustas, todavía sigue siendo un país maravilloso, donde todavía se practica la libertad de expresión y creencias religiosas.

No se como clasificar este libro, sencillamente ES. Allende describe el país en que vivió, en el que actualmente reside y el que encontró a su regreso al Chile de sus amores. Desde mi país, vemos a Chile como progresista, gran exportador, orgulloso y autónomo. Desde el año en que se publicó este libro al día de hoy, ha avanzado hasta alcanzar niveles jamás vistos en Latinoamérica. Para empezar una mujer presidente, este hecho contradice lo dicho por I. Allende. Era uno de los pocos de esta autora que no había leído. Su prosa sigue siendo vigorosa e interesante. Estoy deseando que publique uno nuevo, pues su última novela, El cuaderno de Maya lo he leído 3 veces!

Había comprado este libro, hace bastante tiempo. No tenía muchos deseos de leer sobre Chile, no quería revivir tiempos idos, pero me gusta mucho como escribe Isabel Allende. Adi es que sabia que lo leería.Hace unos días me invadió la nostalgia del país que ya no existe y tuve el gran deseo de abrir este libro.Tido chileno viviendo en el extranjero debería leer este libre.Todo chileno viviendo en Chile, debería leerlo también. Haber si nos comprenden un poquito, a los que algún día nos fuimos. A lo mejor les ayuda a ser un poquito menos, hijos del rigor. A lo mejor se enteran que vivir tantos años bajo un gobierno militar no es lo normal y que un país en que "Todo esta tranquilo, muy lindo y muy ordenado" no es estar viviendo en libertad Esa frase la decíamos todos los chilenos que visitábamos Chile en esos años... Me imagino que para hacer vo durar la diferencia de los años en que gobernó Allende. Gracias Isabel Allende por devolvernos un poquito de lo que fue nuestro Chile en las páginas de tu país inventado.

Uno de los mejores libros que he leido en toda mi vida nunca me habia encontrado con una narrativa tan perfecta y bella dedica a su amado chile. Tremenda imaginacion mis felicitaciones a esta gran mujer.

Es un libro genial, la verdad la Sra. Isabel tiene una vida excitante, porque hay algo muy importante para mi, en ella, que se burla de si misma y eso sólo lo hacen las personas que saben cuanto valen, fue mucho lo que reí leyéndolo, felicitaciones Sra Allende por entretenerlos con sus libros, que por cierto son muchos los he leído, lo recomiendo para que se relajen

I enjoy reading Isabel Allende, so I picked up this book without looking at the reviews. I expected a fictional story, but this was more like an autobiography. I thoroughly enjoy Allende's style of writing so I was not disappointed. I also like historical novels, so I found the background on Chile interesting and at times revealing. I like reading in Spanish to keep up my bilingual skills. So this book was a win win for me.

This was a very honest look into convent life from the eye of a newly entered young girl. I have often wondered about the mystery behind the mystique. As a Catholic I understood all of the prayers and rituals the author described. Having attended Catholic schools myself through college I am very aware of the roles the teaching nuns played in my life. HOWEVER, the ending of this book really shocked me. I knew that the author would eventually leave the convent because that was stated in the promo. WHY she left is what surprised me. My Psychology degree tells me there may have been too much overkill. I actually feel sorry for her since the religious beliefs she has for the rest of her life are predicated on this convent experience. I recommend this book and will purchase it as gifts for some of my friends. I will especially enjoy discussing it with my Catholic girlfriends who entertained the idea of entering the convent at a young age, as I once did. Thank you, Sally, for writing this in a very sincere way.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this account of convent life. As a child, Sally wanted desperately to be a nun and finally convinced her parents to let her be schooled at the convent at age fourteen. She was first an "aspirant," then a postulant, and finally a novice sister. While the final outcome of her story is never in doubt (there are photos of various stages of her life), the reason why was quite surprising.Jardine writes in a very lively style with humor and honesty. There is no preaching or teaching. It did bother me that there are many grammatical errors, missing and misspelled words that could easily be fixed with a good editor.This story is fascinating and fun to read. Highly recommended for those considering the religious life or merely curious about it.

I was intrigued by the title and since I grew up in the same era where you went to a catholic school and were intrigued and wanted to be just like the nuns, and were so encouraged to become one at a very early age; before you had a chance to experience much of life. Her story lets you know it was not easy and makes me glad I did not take that step.On the other hand I was shocked not that she left the Order, but that she is now an Atheist. I would like to understand her thinking and her loss of faith in God. That is such a drastic change. What made her change? Why does she not believe in God, Virgin Birth or any of the precepts of any faith? My last question for her would be Who do you believe gave you life. Looking around you how can you not believe in a Higher Power. Her story made me very sad … I don't believe in all the church says or teaches, but I do believe in God or whatever you wish to call him in yourfaith. He is there for us and I pray he will lead her back to HIM. HE is a Loving God and would welcome her back with open arms

This is not the Nun's story. This is a delightful and intelligent story of coming of age in an environment and era that brought changes to the whole world. Read it you will love all the inmates and enjoy Sally's journey of life and soul

I would've given this five stars, but I wanted it to be longer! I grew up at the same time as Sally, maybe 10 miles away, and she totally nailed the time and place. She also described her companions-in-convent-crime so well, that I wanted to know more about them, and if any of them stayed on to become nuns. (I have the impression that all of them left eventually.) She was also fairly fuzzy about both her reasons for joining the Aspirancy (although at that age, "because my friends are doing it" is a perfectly acceptable explanation) and leaving, other than she felt herself losing her faith. I wanted to know why (if she knew herself.) There is so much compressed into less than 200 pages...if she ever has an revised, expanded version, I'll be the first to buy it.

I have just received the Ledger.... I love how much information can be put in such a small convenient size book. It allows you have great record keeping skills. What I would love as an option.... maybe instead of 40 lines ... maybe 36 or 32 lines.... just to allow a little more room for writing and numbers. If you do that please let me know cause.... Most of them are about Darko Suvin`s poetics as stated in "The Metamorphosis of Science Fiction" and "Positions and Presupositions in Science Fiction". There are two remarkable essays in the collection, at least from my standpoint. First, the essay by Gerald Klein where a new definition of the genre is advanced, and, second, the essay by Marc Angenot, where a very lucid exposition -indeed a resumè- of the utopian socialism. The best piece, however, is the essay by Suvin himself, commenting on the whole of the collection..

This is one of my favorite programming books I've come across. It takes effort to read, so I did find that many of my classmates didn't bother, however, I found it invaluable. Malik goes through every detail and then provides plenty of examples, including whole programs per chapter that are broken down and explained step-by-step. I also found the exercises that follow at the end of the chapters an incredible exercise in improving my C++ despite the fact that I wasn't able to compare with an answer book. I find most books don't really give many exercises, so you have to find them online or come up with your own if you've got the experience.I do wish that the latter portion of the Linked Linear List chapter were easier to read as that was the one time I folded the book and simply relied on my professor's explanations.I had the 7th edition, but Malik outlines at the beginning that the chapters don't necessarily have to be followed from beginning to end and our professor definitely jumped around, but everything came together. This is a great, in-depth way of jumping into C++ for the person who is seriously invested in learning the language.

C++ Programming: From Problem Analysis to Program Design, Second EditionThis book is absolutely amazing. I'm new to programming and the first book I bought was, "C++ Programming in easy steps, Fourth Edition," by Mike McGrath. Another C++ book I have is, "Sams Teach Yourself C=+ in 24 Hours, Fifth Edition" by Jesse Liberty and Rogers Cadenhead. I think those books are a nice way to get started, an introduction in C++, but this book - it's the Full Monty. It's 1,249 pages, including appendixes, of shear knowledge. I haven't finished it yet, so I'll be adding more to this post. "... in easy steps" left me scratching my head about a lot of things, but this book, it answers them all.I first started on my C++ journey by looking at YouTube videos and lots confused me. I think that's partially because I was so new to programming. But watching those videos and then getting into this book - reading this book filled-in all the empty spaces.

I did not go deep enough in the book yet. However there are serious errors in Chapter 4. Several Exercises (7e, 7d and others) try to compare string literals using operators without any comments that this operation has random outcome. Answers do not mention anything about it either making student believe that there is a definite correct answer to such a comparison. This is 7th (!) edition of a very expensive text book used for 1st year C++. It should not have flops of the kind. I do not know what is coming later in more complicated areas. Otherwise the book is nicely set.

As a beginner to programming, I can't really say if anything was missing from this book or not, but I can say that after reading it, I have a pretty good understanding of the basics of C++. I have the Kindle version, and it was pretty easy for me to follow along with. There were times when I had to seek other sources in order to get a better understanding of some of the concepts that were presented, but overall I was very pleased with it.

With minor improvements, this book continues to be a great learning reference for C++. It is important to keep an open mind about the exercises and always refer to the chapter text or examples when figuring out how to solve a problem. Internet references for standard library methods can more specifically explain each method's usage. That is one area this book seems to fall short of still.

First off, the book came a lot faster than expected and right before my class start date to boot!!! However, I didn't like how the book was shipped. It came in a standard paper/bubble-wrap envelope-type of packaging material. I would have liked my book to have been shipped at the minimum, a box! Because of this, the book came a bit damaged from the edges. Nevertheless, the book is still in great shape, regardless of a few cosmetic issues and definitely not enough to be disappointed by any means!Now, by the way, if you're new to programming and may be trying to teach yourself, this book might be somewhat advanced if your'e not already familiar with some extremely basic concepts of C++. However, if you feel like you might be a quick learner, this might be a good book for you. It's nicely formatted and covers quite a large range of concepts. Currently, I'm using this book as part of my second class of my CS program online at Regis University.

I had originally gotten this book in class about 10 years ago. It is BY FAR THE BEST programming book I've ever seen.It was written by a university instructor and his staff with the feedback of students. This is THE BEST book for anyone learning how to program FROM SCRATCH! EVERYTHING IS THERE - just read the book cover-to-cover and make sure you understand the chapter before you move on. You can use google if you need to, (and if you're new to programming you'll probably have to), but everything is there to get through the book AND understand what's going on.I can't tell you how much money I spent on useless books in school that already presume that you've been programming for years.This book is absolutely AMAZING. You're not going to learn how to be l33t haxzor in 3 weeks, but EVERYTHING is there to give you a SOLID foundation in programming concepts. This book was so good, I bought the companion book on Data Structures in C++ AND I got the Java and Java Data Structures books!

It's a C++ text book, and it's ok. There are much better alternatives. I prefer Stroustroup's books, but this one isn't terrible. You'd be better off using Stackexchange's recommended books in my opinion.
